to Jagdhausalm
Want to immerse yourself in another world? Cycling to the “Tibetan village of the Alps” is an experience you'll never forget!
Take the bus transfer to the start of the route at the Sankt Jakob in Defereggen ski centre. The route partly leads through the Hohe Tauern National Park along the Schwarzach, past colourful meadows full of flowers and old, traditional farms. It then passes through the colourful Oberhauser Zirbenwald, the largest uninterrupted Swiss stone pine forest in the Eastern Alps.
Located at 2,009 metres above sea level, the alpine village is made up of 15 stone houses and a church. Jagdhausalm is actually one of the oldest alpine villages in Austria and is a listed site. It is known as the “Little Tibet of the Alps” because of its distinctive style. The return route follows cycle paths through the romantic Defereggental and then along the Iseltal cycle path back to the starting point in Lienz.

Radweg Virgental
Virgental: Ride an e-bike to the source of the last free-flowing glacial river in the Alps!
In 1991, the Umbal Waterfalls were declared a natural landmark. Here, you can feel the true power of nature first-hand!
The route starts at the car park of the Matreier Goldried Bergbahnen (cable car), and then follows the Sonnseite to Niedermauern along the Isel cycle path. You’ll never forget the sight of the thundering glacial river! A moderate, diverse trail leads south of Prägraten via Hinterbichl to the Umbal Waterfalls, where you can cool off in the spray of the largest waterfalls in East Tyrol – you’ve certainly earned it!
The Isel springs from the Umbalkees, a glacier in the Venediger Group of the Hohe Tauern, and flows through the Umbaltal as the Kleine Isel. The NaturKraftWeg – the first water discovery trail in Europe – leads straight to these cascading waterfalls and offers spectacular views of the Isel cataracts. The traditional Islitzeralm Alpine inn is the perfect spot to take a break! The return route follows the Iseltal cycle path back to Lienz.
Moderate difficulty e-bike tour covering more than 70 km.

The insider tips of our guides
Insider tip 1
PARKADE’s charm lies in natural diversity: first there's the mountain scenery of East Tyrol, then the Alpine crossing into Italy, then the mainly flat, incredibly varied routes through the plains of Veneto or Friuli. There is nowhere else which offers such diverse biking experiences – with charming scenery, cultural highlights and, last but not least, delicious cuisine after a day’s exertion.

three-time mountain bike world champion
Insider tip 2
East Tyrol’s e-bike charging station network currently features around 40 stations and is being continuously expanded. Charging stations allow e-bikers to easily reach remote high valleys and enjoy the enchanting East Tyrolean mountain scenery without concerns about their environmental impact. The Tourismusverband Osttirol (East Tyrol Tourism Association) website contains information about over 50 carefully maintained, marked e-bike routes with GPX data as well as details of the route profile, level of difficulty and elevation.

TVB Osttirol
Insider tip 3
The low-traffic country roads through Friuli or Veneto are ideal for e-bikers. A trip to the even inconspicuous places in Friuli can reveal treasures and is definitely worthwhile. Over a cappuccino or spuntino (snack) in the historic piazzas, you can recharge your batteries so that you can concentrate on the route later.
